Andean "Andy" Medjedovic, a 22-year-old Canadian, is facing U.S. charges for orchestrating two major DeFi hacks, stealing $65 million in total. He was involved in the 2021 Listed Finance hack and the 2023 KyberSwap hack.
Medjedovic openly defended his actions, claiming he wasn't breaking the law but exploiting legal loopholes in DeFi systems, similar to hacker Avraham "Avi" Eisenberg’s defense, which was rejected by the courts.
After the Listed Finance hack, Medjedovic became a fugitive, evading arrest by traveling across Europe, South America, and an unnamed island nation. In 2023, he tried to rebrand himself as a "whitehat" hacker but later participated in the KyberSwap hack.
The KyberSwap hack was carefully planned over months, with Medjedovic strategizing every detail, including creating notes and a "POST-EXPLOITATION" plan, showing a highly calculated approach.
Despite his defense, Medjedovic faces serious legal consequences for exploiting vulnerabilities in DeFi systems. His case highlights the risks and legal ramifications of crypto hacking, regardless of perceived legality.
